ABOUT US

Cameron County Crime Stoppers is a state-certified nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting public safety and reducing crime throughout Cameron County, Texas.

our mission

Our mission is to bring criminals to justice and foster a stronger, safer community — one where residents, businesses, and visitors feel secure to live, work, play, and thrive.

How it works

Through an anonymous tip system, we allow individuals to report information about criminal activity or fugitives without ever revealing their identity. Using secure software, all tips received are forwarded to the appropriate investigative or law enforcement agencies.

Tipsters are assigned a confidential code, not a name, and are never asked to appear in court. This ensures that individuals can report crimes safely and without fear of retaliation.

Crime Stoppers began in Albuquerque, New Mexico, in 1976, when Detective Greg MacAleese solved a murder case through a public reenactment and an anonymous tip sparked by a reward. That success launched a movement — and today, hundreds of Crime Stoppers programs operate across the U.S., including Cameron County Crime Stoppers, founded in the early 2000s.

$$$$ For TIPS

If a tip results in an arrest or indictment, the Cameron County Crime Stoppers Board of Directors reviews the case and may approve a cash reward of up to $1,000, based on the severity of the crime. Rewards are paid discreetly in cash, continuing to protect the tipster’s anonymity.

We proudly collaborate with local police departments, the Cameron County Sheriff’s Office, constables, Texas DPS, and other agencies to take action on tips and bring justice to our community.
